Gain new insight and knowledge of current research and clinical innovation, local collaborations and hot topics in heart and lung health. Your FEST scientific symposium registration fee includes all sessions, distinguished speaker presentations, poster presentations, breakfasts, luncheons, networking reception and more.

Reason #2: International Experts & Distinguished Speakers

This year features a stellar cast for our Distinguished Speaker series, including Dr. Harvey Fineberg, President of the Institute of Medicine on “The Power of Knowledge to Influence Policy”; Dr. Sverre Vedal, of the University of Washington speaking about Air Pollution; Dr. Ian Pavord of the Institute for Lung Health, Leicester; Dr. Michael Hayden, Canadian Research Chair in Human Genetics & Molecular Medicine.

Reason #3: Continuing Education Credit

The Heart + Lung FEST Scientific Symposium is an Accredited Group Learning Activity eligible for up to 15.0 Section 1 credits as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. This program has been reviewed and approved by UBC Division of Continuing Professional Development.

Reason #4: Support Education and Development of Young Clinicians & Scientists

A key focus of the scientific symposium is trainee engagement and emerging talent. The event includes research posters, oral presentations and awards for trainees. It also provides an opportunity for young scientists and clinicians to interact with leading experts and learn from each other. Heart + Lung Health FEST is also part of UBC’s Celebrate Research Week.

Reason #5: Network, Network, Network!

The Scientific Symposium draws a broad audience of those in our heart and lung health community: researchers, clinicians, allied health professionals, policy makers, industry, academic organizations, health funding and advocacy partners, students and more! Network with colleagues in your field and across disciplines. Learn from each other, explore potential collaborations and discover synergies in our community and beyond!

Reason #6: Discover or Precipitate New Scientific Directions

Be part of the excitement of innovation! Heart + Lung FEST Scientific Symposium gives you an opportunity to share ideas, build on existing research, establish new partnerships and collaborations and inspire others in the endeavor for new discoveries and innovation to improve heart and lung health.

Reason #7: Help Support & Build Your Community

Heart + Lung Health FEST is a celebration of local talent and is only made possible by the participation and support of our local community, including health authorities, clinical groups, researchers, health promotion organizations, industry partners, policy makers, and academic institutions. By participating and attending FEST, you are supporting growth, development, and capacity building of our local heart and lung health community.

Reason #8: Make a Difference in Patient Care

Play a role in the human chain that brings research to translate into better patient care and improved heart and lung health. The Scientific Symposium brings together people from a variety of disciplines and looks at tough questions, current research, advances in the clinic and new initiatives all with the end goal of improving patient care and eliminating heart and lung diseases. Be part of the action!

Reason #9: Breakfasts, Luncheons & Social Reception

Your registration includes breakfast and lunch both days, as well as the Thursday reception (and complimentary beverage). Use this time to meet with colleagues, discuss common issues, challenges and new initiatives underway, share experiences and exchange ideas.

Reason #10 Have Fun!

Have fun satisfying your curiosity and expanding your knowledge, meeting new people, moving our community forward together, interacting socially and professionally with colleagues—all in a relaxed, off-site environment.
